Crochet a Rose From One Flat Strip

Ten petals, rolled and sewn. Easier than it looks.

What you need

DK cotton in a rose colour and green, a 3.5 mm hook, a needle, pins, and floral wire and tape for a stem.

Step 1: Crochet the petal strip

Work ten scalloped petals along a base: three small, four medium and three large.

Step 2: Roll and sew

Roll tightly from the small end to form the bud, more loosely as you go. Pin it, then sew through every layer.

Step 3: Add a calyx and leaves

A green star-shaped calyx covers the base. Each leaf is worked down one side of a chain and back up the other.

Make a bouquet that lasts

Five or seven roses with a few buds make a gift for Valentine's Day or Mother's Day.
