Easy Crochet Pumpkins From One Flat Rectangle

No rounds, no increasing, no shaping. One stitch and one evening.

What you need

Worsted yarn, a 5 mm hook, stuffing, a tapestry needle and a cinnamon stick for the stem.

Step 1: Crochet a ribbed rectangle

Chain 21. Work about 30 rows of half double crochet in the back loop only (19 stitches), until it is twice as long as it is tall.

Step 2: Seam it into a tube

Fold the rectangle so the first and last rows meet, then slip stitch them together across all 19 stitches.

Step 3: Gather and stuff

Weave the yarn tail around one open end and pull it tight. Stuff firmly, then gather the top the same way.

Step 4: Shape it and add a stem

Stitch down through the centre to dimple both ends, then glue a cinnamon stick into the top.
