Moss Stitch: Woven Texture, One Easy Row

Only chains and single crochet. Flat, dense and reversible.

What you need

Yarn in a few colours, a hook to match, scissors, a needle and a tape measure.

Step 1: Work into the spaces

Single crochet in each chain-1 space of the row below, with 1 chain between the stitches.

Step 2: Repeat that row

Every row is the same. The number of single crochets is half your starting chain, minus one.

Try it in stripes

Each stitch reaches into the row below, so thin stripes turn into a speckled, tweedy pattern.
