Shell Stitch: Pretty Fans, Two Easy Rows

Soft, textured and almost solid, with a scalloped edge.

What you need

Yarn, a hook to match, scissors and stitch markers. Chain a multiple of 6, plus 2.

Step 1: Make the first fans

Single crochet, skip 2 chains, 5 double crochet in the next chain, skip 2 chains. Repeat across.

Step 2: Stagger the rows

Repeat two rows so each fan sits between the fans below. End on a full-shell row for a scalloped edge.

Try it in stripes

Change colour every two rows and each stripe shows as a complete line of fans.

Use it as a border

A row of shells makes a classic finish for a plain blanket, especially a baby blanket.
